A New Beginning!

Posted by anonymous at 08:52 PM on November 05, 2009

I am so excited at the idea of going back home to live in Barbados, I am beside myself with not only joy, but anticipation. I have lived for this moment for years and years and years and ye.....Yes, that long. I am sure many of you who have been taken from your home islands, and although young, but old enough to remember will understand the feeling I am speaking of.

Taken from Barbados just when I was beginning to know who I was as a very young teen (well, at least that's what I thought (LOL). But seriously, I was so excited to get on a plane more than actually going to England. I mean, all those stories I used to hear of a cold, dark and dreary place did not exactly enthuse me. But a plane, ahh! Now there was an adventure worth the cold, and the dark and the dreary. Oh dear, but was I in for a climate shock.

I arrived in England in April. The sun was shining gloriously, but it was FREEZING. My mind could not grasp this concept. How could the sun be shining and yet it was so very cold. The only cold I knew was putting my hand in the icebox of our fridge. I could not get warm. In fact, I think on some level, I have never gotten over that shock, and the slightest overcast sky has me pining for home. So you can understand the kind of trauma that  has subconsciously lodged itself in the recesses of my mind; as we know there are many an overcast sky in this UK.

p,s, I have already bought my suitcase from East Street Market. My friend called it the mother of suitcases.  Stuffed it so much with contents that I have had to do the usual trick of sitting on it, bouncing up and down a bit, just to get it closed enough to zip it. You know what I mean.
